“English across the Curriculum” is part of the module ‘Gemeinschaft’ and comes with 2 ECTS.
There are many different areas and topics which we will be looking at this term. The main purpose is to provide ideas of how to integrate English into other primary school subjects such as ‘Sachunterricht’, Mathematics, P.E., Music, Art, Handicrafts and Wood Work (CDT) and Religious Education. Part of the script follows the cycle of the year (four seasons, festivals and English traditions) to give an overview of what can be done. Furthermore, it tries to approach various topics from different angles.
By the end of this course you should be able to… 1.… prepare and adapt activities, so as to integrate English into other areas of the primary curriculum. 2.… explain a variety of games and activities using appropriate English vocabulary and phrases. 3…. present a semester plan and material collection within a chosen topic (list of topics see Moodle), including the description and materials needed to use a variety of English activities, games, rhymes and songs cross-curricularly in the primary EFL classroom. 4…. conduct effective research (see book list on Moodle) and submit a seminar paper (a collection of suitable cross-curricular games/activities/materials in acceptable English and in line with the standards usually required by academic writing (table of contents, bibliography, in-text quotations). Therefore, we strongly suggest you use English sources (see book list!).
1. Active participation in seminar lessons and 75 % attendance 2. Willingness to work on your vocabulary and pronunciation. 3. Readiness to do proper research
